Depends on the pistons you have-The pistons for higher compression open chamber heads will hit the closed chambers-----If you have the smogger heads, nutter story but probably will clear-------
has peanut ports on it now, but runs strong as shit i have a chance to get a set of 1970 ls6 heads
wasn't they open chambers??? with big dome pistons???? and rectangular intake ports???
well you may not be very happy with rec ports you will have to change many thing to get the power out of the rec ports were now it sounds like it runs good . parts that you may need to see the REC ports to come alive more cam in lift and dur smaller lsa , better valve train .more stall . maybe more gear in back . intake .carb heads, and if it needs new pistons some bottom end work better oil pan .oil pan tray .then you can step up to the plate and throw a 4.250 crank in it and make a 489/496. ever one bad mouth small port heads but they make great TQ and that is what your feeling . the rec ports are going to start getting legs about 4000.rpm and up .not to many places your going to twist a street car past 6000 grand ? i would take very small steps maybe some low buck work first to see where you end up. cars with peanut ports have ran in the tens. but then they were maybe $2000+ a copy 20 years ago
I think that the ls6 motors back then were only around a grank across the counter??????
As much as I hate to (it's been over two years since the last time), offending posts have been removed from this thread. Let's try to keep it civil, and let's keep things on topic.

As a bystander who's totally unschooled in the mysteries of the BBC it looks to me like Pat's warning you that changing to the rectangular port heads is going to require you to make some expensive changes to realize any gain, and perhaps to not see a significant performance hit at lower in the power band (losing the big torque at lower rpm's). Sounds like the advice is to keep the peanut port heads, and concentrate on making some other small changes to improve what you've got as opposed to changing heads to something that's not going to be very street friendly. Just my $0.02, from reading & digesting.

well BILL.S i do have some respect and i well aware this is your big sand box i remember you flinged one of them F in your post or is it more of the tone of the post or more of the context? no matter that was my last post on this.. i said what needed to i am done
Well Bill, you need to go back and delete some more because I'd personally rather deal with the "F" subject that visualize "SHIT" on things I work on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's still kids looking at this forum gang, and some that are just plain offended by the swearing and name calling that is so common on so many other forums..... Guilty of some tirades that I wish I wouldn't have posted too, but I'm still glad Bill is in their keeping this place "G" rated!!!!!!!
