Torque Converter help

Looking @ getting a new torque converter when i put my new camshaft in my 468. Right now i have a 2400-2800 in it. Here's the specs of my engine
Speed pro dome pistons
Wolverine blue racer solid cam
~3200-7500rpm
~.595/.621 lift
~320/330 duration
990 heads w/ 2.25/1.88 valves
Single plane intake
750dp holley
Cast crank
6.185 truck rods

5.13's gears
TH350
NP205
Unknown weight of vehicle

Rough guess from desktop dyno says..
578hp @ 6k
549tq @ 5K

I've read that your suppose to go 500rpm below the peak tq. It's mainly gonna be for mud runs. But i don't know, just looking for some input.

and you only have a 750 carb?????

At the moment yes, also looking for a 850-950dp soon

I don't think that 500rpm below peak torque is right. I'd think it would be 500rpm below the point where your torque curve starts to flatten out. Without seeing it graphed I'd say that if your cam tells you the effective range is 3200-7500rpm then a good place for the torque converter to be stalling would be in the 3000 range. You get into it, and it'll run up to just below the sweet spot and wait for more rpm's. Might not be right, but it kinda makes sense to me.

And like Jerry says, you may not be seeing those peak numbers with the 750cfm carb. You may be limiting yourself on incoming air flow.

GM 990 heads w/ 2.25/1.88 valves

most all the time big port runner heads /cam. more carb cfm= more stall .you want the engine to build power so you do not want a converter holding back engine from the rpm that it needs to move your truck. i do not think there any one on here that builds or plays in the mud ? has a engine builder for engines for what you do i would have a good ideal what you need. but i do not build stalls so i have customers .call guys that build converts talk to more then one see what they say i would think around 3800 you need more cfm then a 750 done builds like yours 850 and 1050 cfm . not busting your balls but all bbc stock rods are 6.135
