What do you guys think of a 366 bb for just dependable not looking much for HP it has a 4barrel intake on it .Would a set of headers help it and does anyone know if it would be pretty easy on gas?

Suggest you research this more, as I remember the 366 was a tall deck block so aftermarket intakes dont fit. Compression is pretty low, heads may have small cc chambers.
Doubt it'll be "easy" on gas! But all the ones I've been around were still in the truck and had the gearing for a truck.
From Wikipedia: "The 366 Big block V-8 (6.0 L) gasoline engine was used only in Chevrolet Medium duty trucks and in school buses. It had a bore of 3.935" and a stroke of 3.760". This engine was made from the 1960s until the mid-1990s. The 366 used 4 compression rings on the pistons as it was designed from the very beginning as a truck engine. The 366 was only produced as a tall deck engine with a 0.400" taller deck than the 396, 402, & 454 short deck big blocks." This means that the tall deck puts the heads further apart. This can be a problem in a narrow engine bay and header clearance is compromised. The intake manifold for a raised deck is wider. The pistons are going to be heavy.....and the engine will be a slug in stock form or mild tune. Gas mileage will most likely suck compared to a small block 350.
well if it was a 427 tall deck thats a 4.250 bore i built them out to 526 right now doing a 540 out of 427 for guys steet engine and a 598 race engine as the are both 10.200 deck engines swaping them in and out will not be a big deal for headers . most of the race blocks past 600 to 638CID or abit more cid use a 10.200 deck. Race bocks and taller deck up 11.600 for bigger CID thers not much you can do with the 366. stock 9.800 deck intakes can fit with spacers plates or companys make intakes for tall deck blocks i done many have many in my shop now i am building most of this week is tall deck week :) here a tall deck race block here a shot of the plates under intake and spacer s cross the valley
So its not worth rebuilding....o'well I guess I'll junk it and get some of my money back. Thanks
oooh.. rebuilding?? no.. if it runs good and you need an engine to get you by... sure, but dont spend the money rebuilding it.
They make great anchors.
Had 2 about 15ft down @ my boat dock when I lived in the water
