		Throwing belts
Hey guys, rebuilt the 454 in my '89 k3500 4x4. Installed long tube headers and eliminated the a.i.r system but kept the air pump on. Air pump wore out and since I wasn't using the pump I pulled the pump and ran a shorter belt. Belt will not stay on. Replaced the tensioner. Belt will not stay on. I do not want to run a pump just for the pulley.

not being there to see it I have to say you have somthing out of line. try laying a stright edge on the pullies that or a bad bearing in one of the idlers.

i think on some with out a air pump had a idler pulley to take up the pump s spot with same belt . you may need a short belt or pulley lineament is off

cffisher makes a very good point, snap a picture so all the above folks will be able to have a better idea of your set up, otherwise it is just a crap shoot. Good alignment is a key, notice how the belt sets in the groves, is it even or pulled to one side. This will show itself without running the engine. Lots of cars and truck for that matter run without belt tensioners, and like Pat said shorter belt, can the tensioner could be the way to go.....
