Head and Intake issue?

Finally getting around to installing my big block. When I placed the intake on the head a hugh opening is left open. It is around the center of the head. Looks like something for a cross-over. The intake is an Edlebrock Performer 2.0. The heads are peanut ports (236).
Is this opening suppossed to be covered up by the intake or is it ok to be left open? Seems like a big opening to collect junk, or will exhaust blow out of it?

I'm not sure where this opening is???Is it on the side or the end??? a picture would be great .

the intake gasket should cover it. its just a opening around the ex cross over keeps hot oil off the ex cross over in the head to keep down the hot ex hitting engine oil and caking around that port more or less hooded around the cross over port
