I would like to put on an aluminum intake. I have peanut port heads as far as I know. What intake would be benificial to the rpm range of 0-5000?
Could I put on the oval shape intake ports without losing to much from the mismatch?

Be more concerned about electrolysis and corrosion. Aluminum intakes on boats don't fare well, especially in salt water. The aluminum intakes from the boat engine builders are specially lined to keep that from happening, but the ones you buy for a car are not.
If you are fresh water cooled, or use the boat only in fresh water, it isn't as big of an issue.

Very good point, it's only in fresh water though. I've been running an aluminum
intake on my 460 jet since 1977. It has upgraded a bit since the early days though.
I don't know squat about these dang chevy's is the problem. What ports on which heads for what intake......:eek:

your not really going to see much power out of this intake swap .the stock 330hp intake is far from the best it takes abit of hp to turn it to MPH on the water . as for the miss match on the intake to port theres a intake casted for the smaller port runners .if fresh water the intake wil be fine .they did cast a bronze in the alum 375 hp and up intake s. but i seen salt eat them up as well just from the salt sitting on the head to intake and rot the alum up very bad it just a expendable deal . i seen alum heads get eatten up by salt is well as iron ... in salt water every thing gets screwed up.Quote:

At least the aluminum would pull some weight, run cooler and hopefully flow slightly better. The big benifit I see is getting rid of that stupid 4 hole entry of
the manifold.
I just don't have the experiance with these bow tie engines yet. I need to pick
some brains that have that experiance. :)
well sorry i can not tell you what you want to hear:(i have been building bbc for 30 years from 396to632+ and was a merc tech. that carb will not know about the 4 hole spacer it going to work long as its not sucking vacuum . your going to have the cool look with a alum intake but and you could pick up some hp but to turn that in to MPH on the water would take more then a intake change to make it worth the money and time. stuff a blower on it now then you will have some thingQuote:

It's really funny after taking our jet boat out to run the barge up the lake :LOL:
But then again, we don't laugh when we spend the night in the barge.
Everything has it's porpose and within that is it's value ;)

That was the only aftermarket peanut port intake I found. Do you know of any others in the power band of 0-5000?
I had an original edelbrock torker on my 460 back in the late 70's. It worked very well with the nearly stock engine.
To bad they don't make that one any more.
What do you think?
For a cabin crzer Merc did it pretty well on the numbers that needed to be---you want more power---get a BIGGER engine and change props---Your going to be running at the 3000 rpm area cruizing so it don't take too big a head or intake/carb to do that
yep when i first work at the boat yard i was thinking like a hot rod guy there so much that i could do to make them run better then every day working on them 454 engines from merc thinking boy for what they are they really run great and the smart thing would be to leave it alone .if you must have a new intake stick to a dual plane something good off idle eldbrock did make a small port at one timeQuote:
