Header Question
Hello all, I've put a 454 bbc in my 1982 halfton pickup. My question is, what are my headers options? I'm looking at all the different brands of ceramic coated longtubes that summit has to offer, but I want some that don't require notching of the frame or header to fit as this is a show truck. Does anyone know which set actually "fits" without having to make any modifications? Looking for something to just drop right in. Thanks in advance!

You should call Headman directly. I had to do that with my 71 because of the angle head plugs. They make just about anything you could want.

Sanderson has always been good to deal with.

Hooker makes some very nice truck headers. My experience has been that they will consistently fit better out of the box then most any other brand....But on a car that can have "bolt on" parts instead of custom made, I'd say a call to the manufacturer's tech people (not the phone bank at Summit) is best before the parts are ordered.

How affordable are the hookers? I'm trying to spend around $300 preferably

why not just use stock cast iron manifolds??? I ran my 84 truck 100,000 miles with not one exhaust incident or replacement part needed and the guy that bought it from me in 1995 is still running it!!!

Ouch - $300 will probably buy a good set of "regular" headers but not ceramics. The regular guys need to be painted often and I'm inclined to go with Jerry here - stock manifolds with a good dual exhaust (2-1/2 for stock engine, 3" for modified) with a cross-over pipe and 40 series Flowmasters is a hard combination to beat.

Yuppers, if $300 is your header budget, then get the stock manifolds out and install a really first rate exhaust system!!!

I don't mind paying a decent price for some longtubes I just want them to fit. I'm not concerned about having to repaint them as the truck isn't a daily driver.
Factory manifolds aren't really an option. The motor isn't stock and they would stick out like a sore thumb lol

Headers
Just watch out if you buy the summit brand of headers. I bought a set and the drivers side pointed up into a parking cable bracket. I had to cut, angle, and re-weld it to clear the bracket so I could finish the exhaust tubing. I put them in a 1982 shortbed with a 454 & turbo 400 trans
