If he is running it low on oil to begin with---what about the filter-is he prefilling the filter??? A high output pump will also pump more oil out of the pan quicker and if its not restricted will fill up the top and not get back to the pan in time--some heads don't drain back very well and some blocks don't have the drain back holes at front and rear of the valley clean( Casting flash)
