427T max bore and head question

Hey all, i did a search and didnt come up with too much info.

A friend of mine wants to trade a 427T with forged pistons, steel crank all machine work done to it for a $500 crank that i have. It sounds pretty good since pistons are like 400.

The only think that scares me is...(this is very scarey to me)... Its bored .125 :HMMM: I read somewhere you don't really want to go over .060 since they have thin walls. Is this true? How good can this be?

Also can you use normal deck heads on it? I have a pair of 781 heads already assembled and ported that i wanted to use on it. Tall decks are new to me so i have some questions. Thanks :)

I'm pretty sure the max you want to bore a 427 is .060.

People make 600 inch motors out of those 427 tall decks and I don't think they do it with stroke alone. If you're worried, ask him if you can get the cylinder walls checked for thickness.

I was just on hotrodding.com or something, its another pretty big good message board site. theres a guy on there that builds these up alot i guess and he said he always bores them 100 over and has done a few 125 over with no problem. so i dont feel so bad about it but its still iffy. Anyone else hear of going this far with them?

I found out you can use standard deck heads on it so thats cool. I'm just not seeing the point of the extra weight these have unless stroking vs a standard deck 454.

You can stuff longer rods in the block without having to move the piston pin into the oil ring groove.

You could stick a 454 crank in there and have yourself a 471.
