    Exclamation 435 BBC or 511 BBC?

     



    I am new to Chevy and am slooowly saving to build a Pro-Street Street/Strip car or truck.

    I was always a Mopar / Ford guy but my friends and family lured me over to "The Darkside" aka Chevrolet.

    I have read and reread an old article in Car Craft about using a Tall Deck 427 block (+.060 overbore & a 4.375 inch stroke, 6.385 inch rods) I was wondering if the TQ produced by this longer stroke offsets the abilty of a 435(+.040 overbore, 6.385 inch rods & forged 3.766 inch stroke) to rev?

    I am thinking an E-85 fueled(E-70-E90 is between 96 & 105 octane, Rocket Brand E-85 is 112 octane) Tunnel Rammed, Solid Roller Cammed 12-13:1 CR 600-700 HP(at the flywheel) and Plate & Fogger N2O injection.

    Watch do you folks think?

    To answer your question intelligently, we need to know what the engine is going in.

    In the most basic sense, usually bigger is better.

    In my humble opinion, it's a matter of CFM. A short stroke motor such as you describe will pass 881 CFM @7000 rpm's. The long stroke motor such as you describe will pass the same CFM @6000 rpm's. Common sense tells me that if you can move the same amount of air with less crank speed, you can spend less money on exotic parts and extend engine life as well.

    well i do not think.. i know as to get a engine to rev fast has not much to do with the crank stroke . i built 4.00 4.250.4375.4.500.4750. and the 4.750 crank engine i have jumps to 8000. very fast . lite mass .but why do you need a fast rev engine ? i have built the stock GM tall deck with the 4.500 crank and thats the way i would go less you have a older block thats not cut out has much for the rods then maybe a 4.375 crank .but for a 2000 more you can build a 632 or 598 with a BIG BORE some times i get the 10.200 deck blocks world or dart .that have lost a piston nothing to bad some times they need a bigger bore to clean up there running them in a class were they can not go bigger on CID and they will not reuse a block . or sometimes they need a sleeve . i do not have any thing at this time when i get them i fix them and they move very fast

    I am looking at late 1970's & 1982-1992 Camaros.

    I would like to build a Pro-Street Show/Cruise(Not Street Race)/Race machine.

    I figure 2900-3300 lbs w/o driver, ladder bar, 4.57-5.13 geared Dana 60 w ARB Air Locker, 10-14 point rollcage, TH400 Transbraked w/Gear Vendors OD & 3200-4200 stall convertor, chromoly drive shaft, 15 gallon fuel cell for engine, 5 gallon spun aluminum fuel cell for N2O, 31-18.5-15 MT ET Streets.

    [A 502 block (std bore forged 4.468 pistons 12-13:1 cr), 6.385 forged rods, forged 4.25 inch crank, an Edelbrock Victor R-Port Tunnel Ram, Twin 850 E-85carbs, Victor R-Port Heads, solid roller cam w 112-114 degrees of Lobe Seperation] would this 533 CID be able to grunt out 700-820 HP on the motor(a 496 on pump gas with aluminum heads & 10.5:1 CR can make 680 HP off the Bottle)?

    why would you stay at the 4470 bore? if you bore that engine out to the 4.500 bore you can get alot of more pistons at the 4.500 bore size then 4.470 i know they make them but the bores would have to be like new to stay there but i would bore it any way its not to hard to get in the boring bar .with a 4.500 shelf piston and then the 4.250 crank will be 540 i built some of them .i have built some 489 and 496 has well here is the way i see it stock gm 9.800 block 489.496 .511 . gm bow tie. world.dart . 9.800 540 to 565 with a 4.250 crank with a 4.375. 582CID . tall deck 598 or 632 every thing cost the same with shelf pistons other then the 4.375 crank would be customs. the marine 502 block they say can not be bore out to 4.600 but i did short block one some time ago . so the what if a 496 or 540 well thats ez for me that has alot to do with what block you have to work with less some one is giving you a 502 block i would not wast much time with one less very cheap... if you looking to buy a used block save up more and build a 565 4.600 bore 4.250 crank you can add Nos but less you have had a engine that can make 800+ EZ hp you may want to cool it on the Nos right know i can get new 9.800block s for less then $1700. that can go to 4.600 getting the tall deck in a car can be bit more work your looking a big tube 2.1/4 to 2.3/8 headers and custom $$$ and you need a very good oil pan
