How to find out more about this engine?
Hey guys, just bought a car, guy that we got it from has no info on the engine other than: built by ed hale of southern california, cost 3500 when built (unknown number years ago) and 450-500hp. but we don't know cam specs, compression, anything. Right now we have the valve covers off, intake off. looks good like little use.
without completely taking it apart and having a machine shop go through it, is there any way to find out something about it? numbers I can look for? I'm not real knowledgeable so forgive me if this is ignorant to ask.
I figure I need this kinda info for later if I want to increase the horsepower, go to a tunnel ram, select torque converter etc. etc.
Thanks gents.

Call Ed Hale of Southern California. Or tear it down and inspect it. Or just drive it

You could do the whole dial indicator/degree wheel thing to try and figure out the cam specs, but why bother? Like the guys say, just drive it. If it works, don't fix it!

Try a phone call to:
Ed Hale Automotive Machine - Lakeside, California - (619)443-4250
This should be a start anyway ....

thanks, I'll try calling up ed hale's shop. We are going to just drive it like it is. But I was thinking of going to a high rise manifold instead of the edelbrock 2.0 that is on there and putting a cool scoop on it. I appreciate the input guys, that's what we were already thinking.
