Anyone got info on a build up and pics of this? This is going to be my final (well almost anyhow) project on my 58 Chevy Biscayne. This Pic is actually a faux supercharger like Mad Max. My question on that is WHY?

At one time I had a lot of 348 and 409 cars, hipo engines and speed parts. A blower manifold for a 409 is a rare item. The best I ever found was a 4-71 manifold, HOWEVER!.....
I did see an article where the top of a 2X4 manifold was milled flat, then had a flat plate, about an inch thick, bolted or welded on top of it for a 6-71.
I would suppose a bogus blower would keep cylinder pressures low enough for pump gas.

They are shorter front-to-back, but I doubt you could find one of those manifolds either, and the blower would look too small.
If the blower doesn't work out for you, the 2X4 setups are pretty common, and with an imaginative fiber glass scopp, it could look wild! You could even hide a large air cleaner inside. An easier "look" would be the scoops that look like the old hilborn upright from the mid sixties, but fit 2X4s.
BTW, You can machine a 454 crank to fit into that block. It becomes a "stroker crank" for the '09. It takes a lot of work, but could boost cubic inches a lot.
Some other parts will interchange from small and big block Chevy's.
I was thinking the 47 was shorter, usually ran a single 4 right? Sweet. I have been researching these motors and heard the 454 thing. Stupid me I did not realize it would stroke it, lol. I wonder if Metal craft Skills center (plan to attend when I get back from overseas) would allow me to make a manifold as a project for the CNC course?

yep some stuff can be used from the 454 crank needs some work turn the mains and nose down .stock 396/502 rods can be used .Ross makes a piston for this .i re work his oil pan with a 454 oil pan .they now make valves. and rockers .now for them .someone now may make a low dollar stroker crank ?.were they seamed to hit the wall is the stock heads. and they now make heads for them .guy named waldell ? spelled wrong .he make s alot of stuff for themQuote:

I think they can "offset grind" the throws to a smaller journal size, which moves the center of the rod journals farther from the crank. I can't swear to it, but I think 500 inches was possible.
I didn't know there were aftermarket parts available any more. At one time I had several motors, a cross ram, and all of the factory manifolds, several brands of valve covers, a Vertex mag, and a couple used aftermarket cams. I sold it all, plus a few '61-'63 cars, to be in the custom paint biz.

That is sweet. There has been a big resurgence back into traditional motors and it was only time that was keeping the 409 away. Now there are an ass load of aftermarket companies that are either producing new or resurrecting old parts for it. (Now that you sold your stuff, lol). Mags, valve covers, rotating assemblies, cams, intakes, etc.
yes edelbock has heads . scorpion makes rockers . you could off set grind the crank from 2.200 on the 454 to 2.100 sbc or honda? that would be 090 or so stroke but custom rods or use some of them cheap H or I or A beam rods on E bay from the nascar guys .and have a crank made about $1700 should get that done or less as they could use the BBC crank core/ stroker forging and you can get bbc crank from 4.000.4.250.4.375.4.500.4.750.and up and i have used all of them i build and machine alot of bbc .i would say a 4.250 may get in the 409 block or more.4.375? hard for me to say with out a block to look at .i know what i can get in a bbc 9.800 for crank . pistons would be a custom so any pin size could be bored in to the pistons. my customer did not do any of this other then pistons i solid him a steel 454 crank and a set of stock 3/8 thumb rods . there a lot of stuff out there now ,this was some time ago .i wanted a 409 for the 50 chevy i am a bit of a big block guy . i was going to do it but it was just way to EZ for me to build a bbc 454 had two of them in the50 chevy and now a 548.looking to do a 556.i may do a 409 some day for it not a 409 for CID and not stock:3dSMILE:.nice car Hotrod Paint
Meand my cousin built a 472ci a few years back. I think that was the cubes about 15 years ago it had a 454 block with extremely rare heads that were according to the machine shop, hi flow factories. The guy offered to give him a set of Aluminum in exchange but my cousin wouldn't have it. We put studs in everything and the engine is still running strong, never been torn apart since it was built in 92. I was 14 at the time.
i have built the 454 stock blocks up to 511 .i have at one time had all the iron gm good head casting numbers and used them in builds from 396to 548 . building off the bow tie 9.800 block (or others) to 580 and the 10.200 stock GM tall deck truck block to 526 cid .then going to a bow tie dart or world or donovan way past that up to 632 .moving the deck up to 11.500 and up gets you in to the 730+ CID with a 4.610 bore 5.500 crank . and past that with a 5000 bore spacing block and heads not hard just abit of money
You might give Scott Sehr, Sehr Performance Machine http://www.sehrpower.com/, a call. When I was there a couple of weeks back he had two 409's on stands, just finished - one 425HP numbers matching and one a bit less special, but looked very cool.
Thanks but this motor is the last thing on the list, just researching for now. The car already runs with a 350/350 combo. How are they mounted in a 58? Are the mounts different from a small block? Side mounts like a small block. I simply swapped to my loaded 327, whenever I broke the '09. :-)
Nice I was not sure. I am not sure how this car is set up (Hopefully not cobble F**ked together, cross my fingers). It was a 6 but the owner before the guy I bought it from swapped the 350 in. I am going to see if he could take more pics. You guys got ideas what would be the best pics to take. I figure, engine mounts, and engine compartment. Maybe more interior. Wheels, more body shots.
