454 with two heads ! ! !
Two different heads.
One is 346236 and the other is a 14081045
They seem to be similar with same size valves
Will this be ok to run?
By the way, one head has these large double stack washers under both valve springs, and the other one only has them under the intake valve springs.
I plan on changing valve springs but will I need to keep the large double stack washers?
Also, how do you remove these large double stack washers ? ? ? I tried magnets, air hose blast, and spray de-greaser thinking they were sucked down with a film of oil! Please help! Thanks!

They are both oval port open heads for the 454 of same eras. The first has 120cc chamber, 225/116cc ports but I don't know the specs on the second. Hopefully it is the same .........

sounds like a big mess .someone used washers for rotator eliminators ? that is what should be in the heads. some heads used them only ex side and late model heads did use rotators on the EX and INTAKE side not hardware washers but the rotator eliminators .you could use some kind of washer but the spring should have some way for locating or they will do some walking. if you can not get them out of the head and you want to. tack weld a bolt on them and use a slide hammer to pull them out

Hey Pat - might they be Shims? It almost sounds like one head is a replacement and the shims might be trying to add a little more life to some tired springs? I've also seen the shims get "glued" in w/epoxy or JB Weld too. Not saying it's right, but could be, eh?

washer could be valve shims? if they are black .blue hpVSI. sliver or gold and say VSI they are not washers there other makes as well . a photo would help ? yes i seen and taken hand fulls of shim s off heads. i do not do heads that way. if the springs are that weak get new springs.i try not to use much shim to get springs back up EX side takes the beating. all you do is run closer to coil bind . i work with the setup of valve in the head s where i want the setup for the springs taller or shorter keeper +or-and +or-retainers to go up or down as well a longer valve stem. if all this fails to get me were i want. i will use shims then a spring cup or hat if there is no way to hold the spring from walking after shiming.if not fixed .i have seen cut valve seals and cut in valve guids. i do not cut much in the spring pockets there alot of ways to go. thinner cup s or hats plus keepers and longer valves or hi retainers . but some times if i have to cut out 020or 030 that about all i care to cut from a head.yup i have seen over ported or over cut valve spring pockets cut in to the intake runners were they try to fix a big Fck up with a cup or hat with jb weld glue to them

It looks like a replacement head was used. One head uses rotation eliminators under both intake and exhaust springs where has the other just one.
The question is, do I need to use these again when I replace the springs when I change to a Comp Cam retro-roller cam?

the heads would have used rotators with stock springs .so if you use any springs with some lbs then they are replace by the rotator eliminators a thick steel shim that holds the spring from walking .so you keep them if going to a hp spring

as for getting out the rotator eliminators out of the head can be hard if they get tap in then getting them out will got happen with out hurting them .i like to shim under the rotator eliminators if needed so i check the fit first so i can get them in and out EZ .hitting the out side of the 0.D of the eliminators on the belt sander or i spot face the rotator pocket in the head they can have some run off to the guid and that makes them stick
