Missing link-cam question

Alright,
So I have a 468 in a 90 454 SS truck. I built the motor to be used as my "work truck", and gas was $4 a gallon. Problem is it falls off at 4500 RPMs, flat on it's face. I thought it was springs, so I swapped from worked Peanut ports to 70 LS-5 heads w/2.19 intake valves, plus port/polish. Lost my bottom end, and ran same ETs, 9.0s 1/8th mile, 2.0 60' w/sticky tires. Motor has 1.50 dome TRW forged pistons, stock bottom end, 4 bolt mains, aluminum roller rockers, old Holley single plane intake, Holley 750 vac secondary carb, Holley Blue fuel pump at 6 psi, HEI w/accel module, coil, and wires.
Here's the issue-When I built the motor I installed the Edelbrock Performer plus cam, 5.00 lift, 115 lobe seperation. Cam said Idle to 5500 RPM powerband and 480 ft lb of torque. I had a buddy power tune it, and it pings bad at anything over 12 degrees initial advance when warmed up with stock advance springs on Premium fuel.
What cam can I use that would fix my low HP and RPM issue without wiping out my 10 MPG? I still want vacuum and will run my AC. What HP am I at now?
Truck has a turbo 400, shift kit, gear vendors OD and 3.73s. 2000? stall.

your not going to get every thing you want so do you want a race truck or a every day driver ? how much total timming do you have . what do you have on the crank ? that cam may work better with a dual plane intake and small ports and lower cr .the cam you would need would be more lift and less lc like 110 or less to move it better with the heads you have now what will your MPG will be at? hell hard to say loose the stock springs in the dist and pull back your total timming there is more to it then just the cam

The truck was to be my work truck, and still is, but I am only driving it a couple days a week, less now because the AC sucks and it got hot quick with it on, installed an electric fan last night, and left the mechanical fan on it. I want a cam to match my current combination without it being race only. I want power brakes and AC. MPG already sucks, how much worse can it get, lol. I'm thinking something in the 5.70 lift area.
Timing is set at 12 BTDC. It had great torque down bottom with the old heads, so I never swapped the advance springs out, although I have them. After the head swap I took it to the strip, it hit the tires harder on the line, but it was too hot out, I'm in FL, and I just quit working on it and went on to a different project after it didn't pick up what I thought it would. Now, a month later, I'm asking the question. I am going to build a double pumper for it, may be a lean issue, no pinging but not optomized. Also, I will put the springs in the dist.
I just want a cam to match my combo without being full race, and keep the 2000 stall. Heads came off a race 468 w/.250 dome pistons, eagle crank and solid cam. I have springs for a solid cam, so good for .600 lift I think. I would like to get the truck to 8.0s in the 1/8th, high 12 quarters.

Hmmmm... Can't have it all...

2000 stall, AC, 12 second truck (5000 lbs?), good mileage :whacked:

Dish pistons plus roots blower maybe the only way to get close (don't hold your breath on the mpg though :LOL: )

OK, I cant' have it all. Nitrous may be in the future, but I want to make it as fast as I can NA before that, and 9.0 isn't as fast as it can. Actually it ran an 8.8 one time, and the last time to the strip I left the tonneau cover and tail gate on, so it has 8.8 or better in it now. I just want 8.4s for now, cam and carb should do it.
My 99 Vette runs 8.6s, does 170 MPH, and get 28 highway, so why cant' my truck do the same, lol... Truck has way more torque than the Vette and leaves harder, but falls off at the top. Vette turns 84 MPH, while Truck turns 76 MPH, both running same ET and 2.0 60'. I have raced them both a bunch. Truck is too nice and is a real 454 SS, so not looking to make it into a race truck. Just want to beat Vettes, Lightnings and SRT-10s.

look at a marine take out roller cam competiton products has them some times they are hi tq and made to work down low and pull to 5000 .a cam on a 108 or 110 lca like this @050 226/234 604/604 lc108 or @050 224/232 568/576lc110 would be what i would start to look at

I checked out the Comp products site, nice link, no cam. You have anything laying around similar to this? I have heard hydraulic rollers are great cams, kinda pricey, but if you only have to do it once... How much torque/HP would this combo make?
I wanted the wider LCA to keep my idle and vacuum, does the hydraulic roller have decent vacuum with the steep ramps?

i can have any thing made i am a dealer for erson cam .the only thing i have used in cams is very big . comp products has cams you may have to call them ask whats on the broom sheet for cams roller hi lift has not much on low vacuum the wide lsa with a smaller dur should help
