Titanium vs steel retainers
I thought titanium was stronger than steel, it is not, just lighter. Apparently steel is 30% stronger. Will a titanium retainer be okay in my street engine or should I go with a steel retainer? Has anyone heard of a failed retainer, I never have? I imagine it would be catastrophic if a valve fell into the cylinder.
I will be running an erson street solid roller cam with crower springs.

Yes the titanium used to have the keepers pull thru--reason for the 10 degree super locks---the tool steel retainers are the best in my opinion
for a street engine anything will probbly do but stay away from the aluminum ones as the valve springs act like a hole saw on them and alum trash goes everywhere

i used both i use 10 dergree and super 7 that is realy 8 dergree i have not seen one fail a hope i never do the 7 super is better then 10 i think they hold better then 10 s .for the street i used both. ti retainers for race and low mile street . for all street miles steel is fineLast edited by pat mccarthy; 02-28-2009 at 09:32 AM.
