fuel smell in oil

Back with another problem: While draining my oil to replace a pan gasket on my 454 I noticed the oil was kind of cloudy( I only had a 100 miles on the oil so I was expecting it to look like new and it should have). It wasn't milky like it had water in it, but is smells like gas. The kicker is I have an electric fuel pump so I have no idea how gas( if that is what it is) could get in the oil. If it is any help the car since the last oil change has been started and stoped numerous times for short period going in and out of the garge( like a couple of dozen). Thanks:

What kind of carb do you have? Sounds like the fuel bowls could be draining while the car sits and not running.

It could be that running the car for those short periods is your problem. The engine doesn't have time to heat up and the unburnt gas runs down the cylinder walls and into the pan. It could be that combined with a too rich mixture.

People who park their cars in the driveway then move them into the garage before going to bed are sort of doing that to their engines too. All the lube washes off the cylinder walls and accelerates engine wear.

I would change the oil and see what happens. I would also let the engine come up to temperature before shutting it off as often as possible.

Thanks for the recommedations and advise.

just came accoss another issue while I had the oil pan down. I can seem some of the cam lubes have some "scoring" on them and the cam only has about 600 miles on it. It is a Comp roller cam.

its out here but if the problem gets worse the mech fuel pump could have a small internal leak

If the diafram is leaking in the mach.fuelpump it will leak in the block, known for in BBC. as far as your lobe on the cam i would pull out the lifter and look.
