I came across a guy that is taking a 454 out of a truck. Runs good and I can test drive it before buying.
I like the idea of having a 2nd one in the shop to maybe start building up or use it as a back up for my current build.
Not sure about the EFI though. I assume I can put my other intake manifold on it and run it. Is this correct?

Definately take it! I know these are a litte different than the early 70's; it's called a Mark V EFI and they are 365HP. I'm pretty sure your intake will work, I think the differences are in the valvetrain. You'll have to do a little digging to find out what exactly they changed, although I know they're still great motors.
I'm not an expert, but! Not all 454's were created equal. The early 70's production units are alot different than the later truck motors. This was due to lighter blocks and emissions. Look in eBay under guides and reviews. I think that is where I got this information. Of course, you can always buy a book on the subject before you get your hopes up.
Grab it, your carb style intake will bolt right on. Gen V's and Gen VI's are slightly different than the old Mark IV's , but great motors.
I put over 200,000 miles on my '90 1 ton Chevy with a 454 efi and tow package. Hauled a 27ft, 6500lb, sailboat from CO to San Carlos, MX and back every year for 6 yrs, plus used it for work hauling around a skidloader and a backhoe as well . Was probably the most dependable pickup I've ever owned .
My brother bought one of the first 454 SS pickups and still owns it, with just over 90,000 miles it is still as fast as when new.
