    Budget 496 stroker suggestions?

I've got a 1975 454. I'd like to stroke it to 496 probably with a Scat kit. Daily driver 4100lb 4dr ex-police 1988 Caprice sedan with auto. Any suggestions on cam and other parts? I will consider an aluminum intake but not sure if aluminum heads will give me alot of bang for the buck. Any ideas for headers for the car? Basically want the most bang for a low-dollar build. Looking for torque and don't expect to go over 5000rpm.

If its never leaving 5000 rpm, keep it stock and throw a typical mild cam on it. there is no sense in pumping up a motor with a big cam, aluminum heads and intake, if you are never going to run it to capacity.

i would build for max TQ at low rpm and use a roller cam and the scat kit .you can make good power with iron heads and work good for lower dollar builds. i have built alot of them .i have a all iron engine no nos running in a 4000 car that hauls

I would follow Pat's lead and also recommend, porting, polishing, and gasket matching the heads. Plus a three angle valve job, and don't forget to degree in that camshaft.

there is alot you can do in the heads jump up on valve sizes . i use the 4 angle on the intake seat and a radius with one angle on the ex with back angle on the ex and roll the face a bit on the ex side maybe thin out the guides if going with new valve and guides go to a smaller stem from 3/8 to 11/32 and that is all i would do

Thanks for the head info. Something I will definitely consider.
