Best cam for my BBC.

I am working on a BB for my 77 C-10 pickup. My compression ratio will be in the 9.6.1 range with forged pistons. I am running stock 781 large oval port heads. I am having trouble picking out a cam that will give my street/strip truck the tire frying power I am looking for. I don't have a converter or a carb yet so I am open to most combinations. I already purchased an RPM Air Gap for intake duties. I wouldn't mind going to a higher than stock converter as long as it offers acceptable street performance. My heads flow well into .600" of lift. I was looking for something with alot of duration to give my stock heads time to breath. Any suggestion would be appreciated. I want 400hp and closer to 500 lb ft of torque.

KXF sounds like a cool project, I have a 75 C15 short step with a mild 454. Id recomend either Edelbrocks Performer RPM, or Comp Cams XE274.
as far as atleast 400 HP, youll be more like 500HP no problem. as far as Carb, right now I have a 770Holley on mine now & love it.
Im eventually planning on buildin mine , I have the same heads & was shootin for same compression with LS6 pistons, when I do Ill probably use my 800 mech. sec. on it.

Thanks for the advice Stepside454. I wanted to get these parts ordered soon. My block was just cleared by the machine shop and I plan to order a complete engine kit cam included. All the cam manufaturers are closed for the holidays. I guess I will be contacting them Monday. Don't want to screw this decision up. I already messed around and got married...where was the cam guy when I got that fool idea in my head?

you could go with a XE268 hyd. Flat tappet cam.

Would need 92 octain with that cam. But lots of torque to get that truck movin.

comp cam xe 276 is the perfect cam you will love it

Dont get crazy with big duration, you mentioned you want tire frying torque, and lots of duration will kill your bottom end. The 276 mentioned or even something a little smaller will build more cylinder pressure instead of bleeding it off. If its the nasty idle you want, get one on a 108 LSA instead of 110 or 112.
