trying to install a new B&M Holeshot 3k into a just built 454 and the torque converter hub is too large to fit into the pilot hole on crank. B&M says spec is 1.74 which I have, but crank hole is 1.69, and old TC is 1.69. Called tech people at BTE and ATI both confirm what B&M said, what gives? Some advise me to work crank with die grinder and remove enough material to allow hub to set in. Not sure this is adviseable with everything be balanced in there.
I have turned down the end on the converter before without a problem.
Just be careful of warranty issues at this point.Quote:

thanks guys, I just joined today and to get this many responses so quick is just awesome. Heck I'm off to get under the car and pull that tranny out.
tranny out and the hub is 1.7035 so with the crank at 1.6900 guess I'm even better then first thought. With just 13.5 thousandths to hone in the crank should be easy eh?
is there i burr on the hole ? you could use to ream ? but not really made to back out and a off size i would use a drum sander on a die grinder (at low speed)you are at the center line of the crank there is no way you will throw off the balance of the engine try not to make it bigger then it has to so the stall has some way to center up would be better to turn down the stall on a mill or lathe you could use a small brake hone but will take a long time the grit is to fine .sunnen makes hones to do what you need but to buy all the stuff to run the sunnen hone it would be about the same price to pull it down and turn the hub hole out on a lathe
