Update to my Gen IV 454 to roller 496

Don't know if you guys remember or not, but earlier in the summer I blew a piston in my Mark IV 454 that is in my boat. Well, since I had the engine out, I decided to go for a forged stroker kit, using a Scat forged crank, scat H-beam rods and probe forged blower pistons.

I used retro hydraulic roller lifters and had a custom cam ground that'll rev to 5500 rpms and allegedly give me between 600 and 650 hp with a 177 blower. I had to get my heads flowed for the custom cam, the shop said they were hand ported (before I bought used on ebay) and had the valves changed. Anyhow, don't know how good the #'s are but I'll try and post the flow numbers and you guys can tell me.

Now, the point of this thread is to tell you guys that if you go this route and convert your flat tappet cam to a roller, you'll also have to change your springs, locks, guide plates, head studs etc. I also of course had to get new pushrods and then to top it off, new valve covers to (because the new cam had more lift and the roller rockers wouldn't fit under the old covers).

Ugg, but hopefully I'll have the engine in the boat for this weekend. It's been a long sumer w/o the boat.

Oh, I also went with an internal balanced stroker kit, so I had to buy a new flywheel and balancer too. Hopefully this engine will be bullet proof and will live for many seasons of pleasure boating.
