tip for the future:
install the cam FIRST. It is a lot easier to reach through the block and give the front of the cam support if the pistons and crank are not in place.
never be in a hurry to do it. move very slow and deliberately. Iffn it don't go, don't force it.
The machine shop is always willing to help. Less willing if you have caused more trouble than they left you.
also: if you would like the mach. shop to install the cam, it would probably be a minimal charge over the bearing installation. never had an issue with it myself, however..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.
