mangled piston on a 454

Probably as expensive as my addition too :D

Actually I wish I could use the weight saving benefits of an aluminum block (and heads for that matter), but the salt water would eat right thru it. I don't want to bother with a closed cooling system, which would add more weight and trouble in the long run. Oh well, have to stay with this 454 block, or maybe switch to a 502 if I could find one real cheap.

With that in mind, what is the difference between a 454 block and a 502 block. I assume different crank and bore sizes, but can a 454 block be made into a 502? Probably a dumb question but....:confused:

i have built the short deck with a 4.3/8 crank . the 502 is a 4.470 a bigger bore you can not really bore a stock 454 out that far. i do find the world blocks and darts .bowtie blocks used some times they need to be sleeved one or two hole s i fix them and some times need nothing

Is this the mysterious and elusive 707 you spoke of a while back?

Oh, was just wondering since they used the same exhaust, cranks etc. Makes sense though.

The machine shop said I could get away with a cast steel crank?? What's the difference between cast steel, and regular cast? Just different type of metal I guess??

what ? this would be a 632? i am working on my 730 that a 11.500 HC donovan with a4.600 bore with 5.500 crank that still getting machine by callies there is nothing mysterious about it:D i still am waiting on the crank they said it would be done at the end of june ?i have 90% of the parts for this engine in some time i may or not post some photos:D

i said that for what your doing it will not cost that much more for better parts but if your machine shop said that then do what they say:D i machine and build big blocks . what i say has no bearing on how they build or machine it .that way if it go.s south you can talk to them:) i sound like a smart a$$ ? but for a boat i think i would spend just a bit more for some better parts .i think going all forged parts will not be that much more. on a car street/strip or truck i would say cast parts would be ok but they will not see the load and even with a small blower it is not worth it. you will not have more then 1000. more in the build with no blower i would say you could go cast steel crank but i still would run forged pistons

Pat, thanks your input means alot. I think I'll definitely do the stroker kit with all forged internals... even if it means waiting until this fall/ winter until I have extra money. Oh well, it'll give me something to dream about until next spring LOL

some shops want to sell you there parts so they can make some money on them.if you find you can get your parts then just go to competition products and get your mass from them. i can beat the price on some things but over all they do a good job on price

I remember a few moths back you were debating on building a 707 for the street and everone was calling you crazy. So I gues you added 23 more cubes....BADASS!

Beautiful 66 there!

I am finishing up my 67. Just cosmetics left to do now.

Just an update, going with a internal balancing forged scat 496 rotating assembly with H beams and probe supercharger low compression pistons. Custom cam, retro hydraulic roller lifters, Rollmaster billet timing set, Romac Neutral Balancer and Flywheel, cometic Head Gaskets for marine blower engine, and a melling oil pump. I was told this combo should put me around 600-650 (reliable) hp on pump gas.

I did find out that the oil pump pickup tube was in the pan when I took it off. I had good oil pressure, but can't be sure what it said when engine started knocking and then seized up. Hmmmm... also, some of the bearings on the rods had lost their lock mechanisms and spun, but other wise (beside the blown piston) it didn't look that bad inside.
