454 startup
i fired my engine for the first time today and the headers seemed to get unusually hot, the carb i am using is an edelbrock 650,i am just using this carb to break it in because my holley 750 i was going to use has a warped baseplate.
car runs when the throttle is open slightly but will not idle, as well as generates what seems like a ton of heat from the exhaust. is my timing too advanced or what else can i check without it running since i am afraid all this starting and stoping is going to destroy my cam

The 650 should not be any problem for break-in.
