I've just sold my blown 496ci :( and i want to start building another engine but i dunno yet with which cubic inches should i go with?:confused:
Im confused between the 509ci and 540ci and what i wanna do is a street/ strip machine with a hyd. Roller Camshaft and a comp. ratio 10.5:1 or 11:1
and a 200 shot of NOS.i dunno which camshaft should i get and which engine Block:confused:
any suggestions?
a 555/565 would work good but you need good heads

the tall deck would get you cid and TQ low rpms but headers will have to be made if you are going to run this hard and may go past 6500 then go with a soild roller cam you can use a hyd roller cam but them lifters may not want to hang on to the caM LObes at HI RPMs ALL IT TAKES is one time and it will be trash it you are not going to put many miles on it then a soild roller is the way i would go . what do i think of world blocks? any block will hold the power you want to make i have had block s that took over 1000 hp bowties darts and worlds if prep is good they all will take it the dart and world have much more iron in them so they can take a big bore better and the bottom end has more beef so if you are going past 1000hp with a big bore 4.600than them are the ones you want if not then your do not need it they are very heavy

well the 565 like i said but and i could sit hear and bang away on the keyboad BUT there is a time when you will have to pay someone to build it for you or you will build it so they may like some thing i do not like on cams i like cams that do not kill spring and use many cams makers cams and one that is willing to make me a custom cam

On any of the low deck BBC that run on pump gas I would try to keep the port volume at 325 cc's or less to keep some of your port velocity.Quote:

The 632 will cost you some more money to build.
The biggest problem problem with the 598/632 is if you run a 24* head you will have to look at some good heads.
On the 598's in street car's we have run the Brodix BB-2 Xtra's that have been CNC'D with really good luck.
I would not run a hyd. roller cam in a 598 I would run a mech. roller.
The hyd. really become to mild in a big cube engine.
In a 565 with the 11. to 1 comp. ratio I would look at some of the largest hyd. cam's out there.
Keep in mind that the power bands are based on a 454 and not a 565.
I have used Crane part number 139661 in a 565.
The specs. are .632/.632 duration at .050 is 256/264 the cam is cut on a 114 l/s.
The heads are the 325 cc Dart's with some port work done to them.
The intake is a Victor with a 1 inch spacer and a flowed 1050 Dom.
This engine with a 250 shot of N20 works great.
Just my opinion, but i had a Hydraulic roller with nitrous, and i would never have another one. Go with a solid roller even a mild one. If you have good heads, you will need less camshaft. I am building a 468 with a solid roller, and it is a fairly nice roller with soft ramps, easy on valvetrain. My hydroller was all done by 6500 it was floating the valves, it is very hard to spring a hyd roller to run up high.

by the way, what u guys think of the lightweight crankshafts?
anything that spins turns or rotates. will benefit from being lighter and in turn make more HP. A lighter rotating assembly will accellerate faster.
the crank will not do much if dril thru the mains (gun drilled ). and stared fly weel hub . were it will help is if the rods pins are drill help with the recip mass . if the counter wts are pendulum cut nice stuff with this done you are looking at 1300. and up. cool to look at but will not do much all the 4.250 i have built or had a hand in more than 30 engines or so one had one of the superlight in it and all the 4.375/4.500 / 4.750 cranks never did i would say it did not do much the crank is some thing i would like to see beefy to keep from moving twisting or breaking but the pistons being at the end of the rod it is nice to have the pistons not lead sinkers put your money were it would do you better my opinion it not with a light crank and for spining them up fast many seamed to spin up to 7500+ just fine but if you have the money to buy a made in the usa 4340 1700.go for it but i do not think you will not see much. scat makes one for about 1300.
