BBC head dilemma???

I am looking at buying a set of BBC heads with a GM performance part number of #14044861. I was told these NEW unused heads have raised runners, W ports, and that the seals & seats are installed. I went to the GM performance parts website and when entering in this number all I could find out about these heads were that they are DISCONTINUED! Perhaps Pat, Eric, or one of the other BBC experts will be able to tell me exactly what these heads are? I know they are cast iron, but do not know if they are open or closed chambered, the cc size, or anything else. Without enlightenment I do not want to purchase because I don't need any WHITE elephants hanging around. :confused: **)

yes i can tell you all you want to know about them heads.i have had them .ok heads back 18 years ago but not now are is much better if you want them you will be looking in to some work to get them to fit they were old pro stock heads . a the port runners on the intake are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to big for you engine the 861/862 W port was not a iron head it was alum

i have more of them i have every thing to make that engine on e-bay a 638 pump gas engine:D you should of sent me your engine i could of help you out

Tell us again what you are trying to do.
What parts do you have?
Gear ratio?
Auto or man. tranny?
If auto. what is you stall speed?
Car weight?

well it going to run like a bat out of hell with any big O port heads alum would be nice any of the small rect would work but i think for what you are doing a set of ALUM O ports would do very good to get the front end weigh down on your A bone to bad you live so fare a way that thing is going to fly. i did a 28 A all glass car tub out with one of my old 548 748 lift roller cam 14.5 bbc in it was a hand full .

Eric, I have a virgin 1970 454 LS6 shortblock which has never been fired. It was built 25 years ago & I stored it. I am not sure what heads were used other than they were open chambered to lower the LS6 high compression pistons. I will be running this in a 30 Model A roadster, with a turbo 400 (billet clutch hub, Red Altos, Kolene steels, & shift kit), the gears are 3.89 in a 9" 31 spline Ford rearend), the converter is supposed to be somewhere from 2400 to 2800 rpm. The cam is a hyd roller 231/239 dur @ .050 with 626 lift across the board. I am just shopping for the RIGHT heads IF the ones I have are NOT the correct one. My current heads are ported, 1.7 Crane rollers, Jomar stud girdle, and are supposed to have 2.19 intakes with 1.88 exhaust valves which is what I paid for long ago however I will not know for sure if I even have them until the heads are removed. I am hoping I at least have the 781 heads. If I have these heads will they work okay or should I go a different route? The roadster is just a sunny day toy and not built for drag strip racing events and will not likely hook up.

If money where not an object my first choice for an oval port head would be the Brodix
RR-BB-O heads with the CNC'D combustion chambers.
If you look at the mid-lift numbers .300-.400 lift area where you valve spends most of the time these heads are very good.
The 781's will work but they will require a lot of prep work to make them work for what you are doing.
If I had to guess I would say the Brodix heads will make an easy 35-50 hp over the 781's.
