I'm dropping in my big block into my '69 el camino and it seems that the engine mounts are not wide enough to slide onto the frame brackets. I bought the Energy Suspension polyurethane mounts, anybody have any problems with these before? Any ideas before I start trying to pound on them?
will stock mounts work?? maybe give that a try
did it originally have a big block in it before? if it had a small block before the motor mounts are different from the big block.

when I changed my engine in my 72 el camino the new engine mounts for the 350 did not fit, were not wide enough and found that the 305 of 307 that was in there the mounts for the that engine where wider and we got ones for that engine and an easy job turn hard turned easy again. Not sure on the big block set up but this might help ED ke6bnl

Here's what I seemed to dimly remember. I think that there are two different widths for the frame brackets. In the mid 60's there was a recall on all V8 models due to the rubber separating from the steel part of the mounts, and restraints were added to keep the engine in place in the event of failure. The engine mounts were subsequently redesigned with an interlocking feature and the frame bracket width was changed to prevent older, failure prone mounts from being installed. This was in the late 60's. The conflict could be from the difference in those bracket widths. It's been 40 years and the memory ain't what it was, but this info may at least provide a clue.

If you are using the early style mounts,they should slip into the frame brackets. I've gone from big block to small block and back. The only time I had to move the brackets was going from 6 to 8. If you use the later mounts where the bracket bolts to the block,and the mount goes to the frame,just bolt the mounts to the brackets,drop it down in,center things up,mark your bolt holes,remove engine ,drill holes and re assemble.
