496 ci 12.8 to 1 comp
all forged, Brodix STS BB-2 PLUS (CNC Ported), hvh 4150 intake(will be moving too a 4500 intake later next year)
its all going in a 3400lbs malibu, would like to get at least low 10's out of it..
this would be N/a, and spray will be later.lol
im upgrading the spring package, and looking for the best cam i can(im thinking custom soild roller) but maybe theres a shelf cam out there that can get her done.
any advise one has would be great. thanks.

Might want to get some of the weight off that Malibu. Easiest way to make more horsepower is to make the car lighter,,,, Also, putting a five speed in instead of the usual automatic would give you a better range of gears to get that much mass moving...... JMO
not my car, helping a buddies get his combo fixxed up.but all that can be dealt with after the motor is done, right now theres 4.56 gear, with a tci 4000 stall. it will get a taller tire(29") from the 26 or 27 that are on it.Quote:

and no saidly, not much weight can be lost from the car. its as light as he wants its, so thats what i have to work with.
same heads intake carb cam was in his 396, and it went 11.20s n/a.
but sadly he was in coil bind and destroyed the cam , first motor cracked the block do to him not gapping the rings, know its a 496 that just lost oil pressure(there was a couple things going on there) and now its in my hands too get it right. i need to figure out the best cam combo i can get.

Are you saying that the converter stalled at 4,000 with the 396 or the 496?
I would try and run a 4,500- 5,000 stall.
Does the car have a brake ?
Even with a 4,500 -5,000 stall because of the weight of the car I would look at cams that have no more than 270 degree's at .050 if he has a brake and the 4,500 to 5,000 stall speed.

the 396 is long gone..lol
im redoing the 496 cause he did it himself , and lost oil pressure. and hurt some other things. he dont have a brake, but i think thats one more change i have to make down the road, i wanted to get the motor and all done before i changed converters or gears.
no tci says its a 4000 stall, im not sure what he has , ill runn the numbers on it later and try to figure that shit out..lol
and all the cams weve been looking at are in the 260- 270 range at .050
and around the 700 to 740 ish lift range(.731)
hes staying with the JW glide for now, its mainly a drag car.Quote:

got the cam springs and retainers today...all Lunati soild roller 276/284 duration @.050, adv 312/320, lift .722/.722, LB 110 set at 108..playing with it on the desktop dyno looks good for around 700 hp or so.. now with the 2 bolt block, am i going too have to worry about main caps walking out? it would be nice too know before the block goes in too the machine shop. plan on adding a windage tray and main studs, but if im going too have issues on spray with the main tryying to walk, id like too add 4 bolt caps..and what windage tray should i use?
main caps should be ok have run many two bolt blocks but if you ars going nuts with the spray then you may want to up grade to a bettter cap or stud s or both . you can run the milodon tray or the moroso if you use Arp studs for the tray you may need to cut about a 1/2 inch off the top of two that are close the the front # 3 cap they will hold up the pan off the block or wear two holes in the pan from the studs . i have a nice roller about the spec s as that. if you want a good use roller cam?

W/splayed Caps, I Squeezed The S%@#$ Out Of It And Never Had Any Problems, It Still Runs Like A Raped Ape Today In My Buddies Malibu.OH YEA SAVE SOME MONEY DONT BUY ANOTHER MANIFOLD GET THE 4500 TO 4150 2" SPACER FROM MOROSO AND GET A TUNED DOMINATOR! YOUR RATT WILL REALLY LIKE IT! IT WILL REALLY PICK UP VELOCITY ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE BOTTOM OF THE TORQUE BAND.
