What are you asking? Will it work? Yes, probably very nicely. Stock 454's usually have a flat top pistons and large chamber heads, which mean low, low c/r. Those heads will help some with that, your c/r will still be a bit low, but it should boost it up to maybe 9/1 or close. Use a steel shim head gasket to help a bit more. What are your plans for this engine? You can do better with the cam.
thanks for reply I talked to Mor-tex and got my answers but this engine will be installed in a 2nd gen 73 camaro and I am looking for more than the combo that came with it. this is just a place to start. I am looking for a combo that i can use most of my parts and get 575 to 600 fpt and dont care what the hp is prefer pump gas and street use.
If you're looking for that kind of tq, I think you should go for a stroker engine. You can build a 496 for example from your 454 and find it much easier to get your torque numbers up. But it will still be fine with a 454 or 460 combo...not 600# though.
