I have a set of Oval port heads with the numbers 14092360, can anyone tell me the specs. on these heads? Are they worth putting on a street/strip engine I'm building for my 67 Nova.
Thanks

Here's a site link for identifying big block chev parts.

Thanks, I've been there and all it shows is 86-88 open, truck. I'm guessing that they are 119cc? I want to put 9.5 to 1 piston in but I need to find out the correct cc.
Couldn't find anything definite. From what I can tell, open chambers came in 113 & 118cc. The 113's all appear to be "earlier" models, so given the vintage on yours I'd say they're 118's.
Give this post a couple more days, some folks don't even look during the weekend. There may be someone who has first hand experience with this head.
Thanks, I appreciate your help with this.
Update. I got an email from a source who's had some BB experience and has chosen not to post. He says the heads are 116cc.
    **)
Did you find out any more on these heads ?
I have a set of them on my Nova....
These make a good truck motor but will choke out at 4500 rpms and cannot really be modified well to make serious power according to "my" head expert.
Ask your machinist if he has some decent heads around. You may get surprised and pick some up for a reasonable price.
There are apparently many good heads around for the BBC. I'm just getting into this myself so I'm no talking head.
Here's a few numbers he thought were premo:
049, 702, 290, 781. I know there are more that will make good HP and torque. The 702s and the 781 are open and the others are closed. I'd stay away from the closed unless you are racing or can modify them to use with appropriate rods, crank, pistons, gaskets, and deck to stay as close as you can to pump gas unless you're racing or willing to live with additives and the like.
My questions are these for you. What are you putting it in, what are you going to do with it, and how much money are you going to spend to go how fast?
I want some good heads to flow to 6500 and make about 450-550 hp with a flat torque curve for a mild to mod street engine that is nomally aspirated with an aftermarket manifold like a performer. I would like to stay on premium gas only.
What heads to buy even if they need massaging, what bottom end, rod type, pistons, rings, and carb as well since I'm asking.
Actually these heads are ok, I have them on my 71 Nova with a 468 big block. I am looking for something that will breathe a little beter.
The motor runs good, but is basically out of air arouind 4500 rpm's
The motor has a stock 4 bolt block with stock rods etc..
A very mild cam was added with a aluminum duel plane intake and holley carb. I plan on going to a slightly more agressive prifile on the cam, 2" hooker comp headers and of course the better oval port heads. I want to be able to drive this around on pump gas like a daily driver, but of course it will not be driven daily.
I don't think 500 horse power would be too hard to get out of a 468 even with some very mild mods....
You are going to make some torque with your motor with any open head. Those will choke out as you said at 4500 rpms which is fine for a truck motor. To make the power you want I'd try giving these people a call. www.FelberRacing.comQuote:
