Consider the dreaded quadrajet stage 2 or 3 from jet performance out in california. It will have the smaller primaries for economy/street. Hopefully, your compression is more than 9 to 1 with this cam. If you are running this cam on pump gas then your are bleeding off alot cylinder pressure from an already low static compression.9to 1 is more representative of your static compression. The 4:11 gear is making up for the low cylinder pressure. I have used a crane powermax 282 / 226/236 534/553 112 It is an excellent cam with loads of torque and it sounds really good, especially in a 402. I have a 3:42 gear in my 3900 lb monte and it works perfectly. For some unknown reason, people like to over-gear bb chevys. They provide tremendous amounts of torque. This cam will work well with a torker or maybe better with a performer. It is important to know your static compression. I have recently gotten a hold of a 454 that is very strong and sounds good. I was floored when I pulled the heads off and discovered flat top pistons .030 below deck and 114cc chambers. This only nets 8.3 to 1 static compression...good for an rv cam.
