406 Chevy
Any one know whether or not a 406 Chevy is worth saving or should I just scrap it. I Have it torn down but I have all the parts, heads, crank, pistons. Everything looks pretty good, just needed rebuilt.
What do you think?
This is the one that is not a small block or a big block, somewhere in between.

By 406, do you mean an .030 over 400? If that's the case they make a great pulling torque motor. Just don't plan to spin them too high. Build them to run 2500-5700 or so and they are a great street motor. If you want more RPM than that you should consider some crank and connecting rod work.

I see you're on the right coast. If you were closer to me, I'd advise you to scrap it and I would come take it off your hands.

I really don't know. I was told this was a stock 406 motor. It may have been a truck engine.
I didn't spend a lot of time checking numbers on the parts when I tore it down, just wanted to make sure it wasn't junk. Then we stuffed a 350 in the truck and the motor got put off to the side. I'm cleaning out some stuff and it's on the list.
I'd like to try and sell it but I'm not sure where to list it and as what.
Hate to junk a motor that old.

I may be wrong but wasnt there a 402 in the early 70's that was nothing more than a 396 with a slightly larger bore. I think maybe that is what you have and if it is 406, possibly a slight bore was on the block. Regardless, considering the premium price that big blocks are getting, and going up each year I would keep the motor ...or including me Im sure there a many on here would accept a donation from you.
