 What pistons should i use?Here is what I have and what I want.Any and all advice is appeciated.Go ahead, even rip on the new guy!! 72 402 truck. I have a good standard bore block.2bolt w/arp studs.New,stock nitrided steel crank.7/16 dimple rods,press fit.Heads,I have stock rebuildt 781 or 049 w/larger valves & ported.No cam selected yet.
 I,m not looking for a high HP motor,but a stout torquey cruiser motor.It will Have a new 700r tranny/2000stall & new 3.42 auburn posi.Thanks

 what are you looking for cr if the bore is good you can use a 396 +0.30 kb makes some but the cr may be low with the big chamber head so look at the speedpros or trw they are not cheap the old 396-402 pistons cost the same or more than 454 you wil need the 396 11to1 to work in them heads to get the cr up to make it run and they will not be that hi on the 781 head and i think $400 a set but when you get past that with the rigth cam it will run geat.

 I would like about 9.0 cr.Any ideas on a cam.I was thinkin maybe one of these new voodoo cams?

 look at trw l2287f-30 i will not run flat lifter cams in big blocks i would use a very small hyd roller camOriginally posted by 72trkbbc
