Any disadvantages to a Tall Deck Big Block???

Hello Everyone, Are there any disadvanages to a Tall Deck Big Block (Chevy)??? Special intake/exhaust manafolds? Timing chain? And if so, are these parts more expensive? Thank You Bill

timing set is the same oilpump drive the same . but what you use the tall deck for is more cid longer rods keeps the stroke from hitting the pistons when they come a round the crank and the tall deck helps with the piston pin location in the pistons too .the intake will need to for a tall deck or spacers and custom push rods to there is many thing that i would go over but this is the basic stuff there is blocks taller than 10.200 and hi cam blocks to for 700 + engine too but the gm is 10.200 and you can get 468 to650 with the right 10.200 block bigger than this you would need a taller block and a hi cam block

Thanks Pat. I want to use a big block with a blower & I noticed that you can get more cubes & still have a low compression ratio... And, of course, isn't more better???? Money wise it seems as if it doesn't cost that much more...... But then again, I'm just obsessing on HP. Thanks again, Bill

The only thing better then lots of cubic inches is more cubic inches......as long as you have a driveline that will live and suspension that will hook it up!!!!!

the two big things are the pistons and balancing the bottom end you can get 580 out of a the short deck block9.800 and 650 out of the 10.200 this is about the max and the parts are not to bad but the 650 would be $2000 for the crank and you would need a custom oilpan the mallory metal for the crank is $$ and the pistons start getting very short and it is hard to get the ring pack on the piston and same with the wrist pins so a540 or 572 or a bit bigger on the bore like i said before .i would stay with the 4.500 crank if going to run a blower on top .more is better and to much is not enough
