If i use an intake spacer kit on a 427 tall deck, how will that effect the angle that the distributor sits? On a big block, the distributor sits at an angle; if i take a standard deck intake and raise it upwards using the spacer kit, wont this change the angle that the distributor is intended to maintain? And as a result change the angle that the distributor gear meets the cam? Will this cuase premature wear to the distributor gear?

you need a slip collar distridutor or make one if not no oil . you will not drive the oil pump and junk you engine
I understand that a slip collar distributor would be required. But my question is, by using a standard deck heigth intake combined with an intake spacer kit for use on a tall deck motor, what effects would there be due to the angle of the distributor changing?
what angle?? i have done many tall decks if the in take is 400 to 375 up then the distributor needs to go down 400to375 yes you can run the gear to far down or up and wear on the gear or wear the oil pump out this runs the oil pump gears in the oil pump plate you need to check the pattern on the gear but you must have it far enough to drive the oil pump and make a good setup pattern on the gear the angle is not change on the distQuote:

Pat, what he's saying is that as you look at the motor from the front, the distributor is angled because of the way the distributor gear engages the cam gear. He's saying that if you raise the manifold, it changes the relationship between the hole in the manifold and the distributor housing.
yes but it dose not change the intake angle gets wider with the spacers this will not move the center line of the dist hole in the intake no angles change just a thicker intake the center line dos not move
Tech inspector understands what i'm asking. I attached a diagram detailing the question i'm asking. Note: the relocation of the hole where the distributor would enter the intake. By using intake spacers, wouldn't the correct angle of the distributor have to change?
The distributor does not sit on the centerline of the engine, it sits off to the side so it engages the cam vertically. The distributor is vertical in the block and raising it will not change the angle. Even if the distributor engaged the cam at an angle, it doesn't matter what angle. The gear is round, therefore, the same from any angle.
yes i do understand . like i said this will not change the the center line .you are going to and add two spacers one to each side of the intake . yes the dist is at a very slight angle but not very much . what you are thinking has never been a problem .i have had to spot face the dist hole before so yes it is at a angle but very sligth you would have to move the intake up alot more then 400or370 to make this a problemQuote:
