496 oil pan clearance
Hey yall! As some of you know, I am in the midst of putting together a 496 stroker. Well I have finally got the rotating assembly in place, but have a question about the oil pan. I was planning on using the 7qt pan that was on the 396, but then got to wondering if it would allow for the 4.250 stroke. I do not know the brand of pan, but I think it is one of those off brands that are trying to make their stuff look like milodon's. Any who. has any one built a 496 and used on of these, or a stock pan? Your help would be appreciated! Thanks all.

the pan on the side rails should be dimple out. were the rods swing and if not they mite hit this. is not to much stroke but it needs to be check with a dry run. with no pan gaskets i move the pan all one way this will be1/2 the oil pan bolt holes. crank the engine by hand and see if it hits. if not move the pan to the other side and if it clears it will be ok. do this with the pan up so you can see the pan move if the rods hit you need min of .080 if not you have to work on the pan or get somthing that is cut for the stroke. when i do this i put one hand on the pan to feel it move or try some white grease on the side of the rods. and see if it move it off the rods. if you have a $49.00 oil pan .the oil pump hits the pan on the lip in side of the pan. were the sump this weld on the the pan and needs some hammer work .Last edited by pat mccarthy; 11-07-2005 at 07:13 PM.

496 Oil Pan
I just put a 496 together with a truck pan. The dipstick caused an interference and the bottom portion of the outer tube need to be cut off. The windage tray also caused a problem with the dipstick and it needed to be modified.
