this is my first post and im hoping to get some good info from this site.

i recently picked up a 396 and had some questions. im very familiar with small chevy and have built alot of them, but never messed with a big block. i ran the numbers on the block(3855961) and mortec says 65-66 396 or 66 427. it been taken .040 over already, but i planned on taken it .060 anyways. the crank is a 6223 crank(i think, the numbers 6223 are at the very front of the crank, is that where they are?) 6223 are the only numbers there and are pretty big. the casting numbers on the heads are 14081045, which is 454 open port oval chambers.

this is what i want to do: at least 450-500hp and bout the same torque. i want to put it in a pre 75 car or truck, built for the strip but able to rip on the streets on a weekend or somthin.oh and my friends said i couldnt make a big block spin even close to 6500 rpms so i want it to do that too.

what i want to know is how do i tell if its a 396 or 427? the 396 and 427 both used that crank and block, how do i tell? i dont have a mic, so i cant measure the bore, but im tryin to get one.

i want a 427, so if it is a 396, i can put the crank in a 454 block and use 427 pistons and make a 427 right?

also, i was wonderin bout the heads. anybody know the valve size, combustion chamber size, and/or how much they flow? or even how well theyll work on a built motor?

i know this is long but i appreciate any replies/info. thanks in advance.
