Cranks
I've heard conflicting storys about cranks I'm going to use a cast iron crank in my 500hp 350 small block chevy four bolt main with stock redone connecting rod with arp studs and with floating pins i was wondering if that would be ok or do i have to use forged.

I personally wouldnt worry about a cast crank, a friend of mine ran a Vega small block drag car for 12 years with a cast crank...never a problem at all. Is this a drag car only, or street car? 500 HP small block is pretty extreme, that's why Im asking. There is some concern about harmonics with forged cranks too, you might want to do some reading up on that topic. I just built a 505 big block chevy, and used a cast crank. Im not worried about it at all. You posted this in big block section, you might want to move it to small block and see if you get more responses.

Not a big fan of steel cranks for street use, having broken a number of them. An iron one will knock for a time and not scatter, steel shatters. When that happens, rebuilding the wreckage is out of the picture.

a cast crank will work. but for little more$$ you can get a cast steel crank this would be wise:whacked:
