fuel upgrades
so im getting my engine 402-built, going to run about 450-475 hp. rpm intake-oval port heads-crane cam with .555 lift. built internals. should i just buy a upgraded fuel pump or should i go electric, also should i redo my fuel lines and run larger lines? any info on your big block fuel set ups would be helpful.
thanks

On this 454, .030 over, Comp Cams 292 Magnum, 850 double pumper, Holley Street Dominator, oval port heads, I used a Holley Red electric fuel pump at the tank, and 3/8" lines. No problem. Lots of cubic inches, lots of carb . . . never a stutter.
Not that they aren't any good, but I just don't like or use mechanical fuel pumps. I put a Holley Red pump on all my street cars. Never went larger than 3/8" lines on a street car either.Jack

Strictly mechanical for me...I personally dont like the noise from an electric, thats all....I dont see any reason to change, you have to run the wiring, set up a fuse or breaker, switch...OK, no big deal, but why? Just an opinion, I have nothing against an electric pump, just dont see any need to change to one. And your 3/8" line will be big enough for what you're doing. When your dreams turn to dust, Vacuum!

well i need to upgrade the fuel line from my 5/16 line to the 3/8 line. ive decided that, does my fuel tank sending unit need to be upgraded to? probally hey? it is also only a 5/16 line. no ill probally just go with the mechanical pump cuz i hate wiring and i hate my wireing. ill just buy a good holley one.

Yep, the 5/16" is a little on the small size. And yes, you'll have to do the whole thing, from inside the tank to the pump...If you go with a mechanical pump, dont get a high pressure pump, just a high volume if needed. With the high pressure, you'll need a regulator, they're over 7 # pressure...the standard ones are OK to run without a regulator. I would look at the Carter pumps before Holley...just my opinion.
