396 help

Could any one help me with building a 396 BB for dragracing I dont know much and im 16 but have a 396 from my moms old 67 chevelle and I have the money but dont know what to do with it. I have to send it out to get bored and i dono what to have it done to so any help would be great thanks alot.:confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:

keep it stock just use better pistons and get the engine
balanced and also install hardened valve seats so u can
run pump gas:HMMM:

You have to decide first what you want to do with it, or what you want it to do. When you say drag race, do you mean a race only car, or something you might take to the track once in awhile? There is a lot you can do with the engine, from stock to highly modified, which is going to run poorly on the street. You can get lots of help, but you have to be more specific about what you want. Also, I respectfully disagree with dotgone...you dont need hardened seats. I would take hundreds of thousands of miles to wear on the valve seats. Its a pretty expensive machining process to install them, and it's an unnesessary expense in my opinion. If you're concerned about it, you can always add a lead additive once in awhile with your gas. Anyway, think about what type of performance you're looking to achieve, and write here or email for more advice. If you're having the block bored already, ask your machinist for opinions (if he's performance oriented) And why do you think it needs to be bored??
