Richard. Sorry, but I assumed most people would know what TLB stood for. Especially guys our age. (should have said American Grafitti without the black paint)
I remember watching guys at Dragway 42 in the early 60's. These were the big times for the gasser's. (Chevy's and Willys. My first street rod was a 33 Willys 77 Coupe that came right off 42. Another story) Ohio was a huge area for these cars. Guy's like Ron Hassel, Ed Schartman, Gene Swartz, Virgil Cates, Nick Mayer, Ohio George Motgomery, Dave Koffel, and the list goes on. They even have the gasser reunion once a year at Thompson Dragway. Really neat...
Most of these guys ran ALL SB Chevys. 283's 327's, 292's, 374's, etc. The strip was about 30 minutes away, so I was there every chance I got. I even raced my first car there. I think it was L/S with a 60 Biscayne 6 banger with splits. But being part of that whole "thing" was really cool.....Nothing compares to that, especially todays drag racing. You had to be there "live" in thre 60's to really know what it was..................
As for the 572, it surely would have been A/Gas.
For the 55 from NZ, and it is a nice car, the green color, and the pro-scoop, and not having that correct frontal attitude, even standing still, is not a fair representation of the TLB. Although I will agree the scoop on the original 55 is truely "BUTT" ugly. Period maybe, but non the less ugly. An old country paper box, "borrowed" was more the style back then.
My 55 is less the straight axle, but does sit correctly, and the scoop is missing also........... Fender well headers, and tilt glass front end for sure. American racing 200S wheels, and 10% engine set back. As far as the color, it IS the correct "primer" color. It's not primer, but a look alike with a clear coat. The car is a representation, not an exact copy. Close and maybe the cigar too........
I don't know how to post pictures from my computer, or there would be some posted.
Well, I still would like to hear from anybody using a "572" in ANY hot rod................
C/GAS
