no, I wanna sell the 402 BB and buy a 350 with a stroker kit cuz its way cheaper to get my goal of about 425-450 hp. Thats why i wanna know the going price of a 402.
Around here a used stock 402 might bring 450 to 500 .In that range. Question, why not build the 402?I've been told all my life it seems, that a big block breathes much better than a small block.LT1S10 and I have a friend that has a 67 --396-375H.P. camaro that ran in the high 120s in the 10s. That car was never used as a street car and is setting in his garage today with only 1122 actual miles on it. You dont see many 383s turning those kind of numbers.Although I have pretty much been a small block chevy man all my life I have been tempted to go that route myself, I have read several comparrison articles over years and I cant remenber the small block coming out on top very often. If You just want a 383 , go for it.
NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT!! I think you will have more $$ in the small block to get the same performance. That is why the drag strip is full of BBC's.
i agree...
Keep the 402 and throw a stroker crank kit in that if you want....Your hp goal will be easier to obtain the BB.
why would you take out 402 big block ?? the stock heads will out flow the small blocks even if you spend big $$ the stock big heads with not much work they will kill your small$$ headswith stock parts in them bore the 402 to 0.30 and try to get it to 9.1/5 or 10.get edelbrock rpm or air gap. do not cut heads out for big valves with the small bore it is a waist of money do a bowl job and a good 3 angel valve job and ss valves for the cam at 0.50 230 230 544 544 on 110 or a501 527 214 224on 110the bottm end on big blocks are ROCK solid you do not need to spend much here put mich 77 bearings in it run oil clearances at .002.5 rods & mains a good set of rod bolts arp a good oil pan with a tray and some good machine work this 402 will kick a mud hole in that 383 and will last longer
I agree with everyone who answered. Cut the block for zero deck and use a 0.035" to 0.045" thick head gasket.
Another vote here for the big block.....so much easier to make power with them, build on it....dont take it out. Small block parts in general might be cheaper, but for a stroker build up, you're going to spend a whole lot more to get what you want. John
time for a update- decided to go with the big block- being built as we speak- rpm heads 454-oval port alum-rpm intake, holley fuel pump and 750 4 barrel- moroso oil pan-high flo oil pump-arp bolts all the way through the engine-can remeber the pistons but 10.1 compression and scat connecting rods, oh and forged crank with a crane cam, .280 duration if i recall.... msd 6a ignition box, heli core wires and msn pro billet distributer...should be around 500 hp.....now, my rear end and tranny are gonna blow up but my engine is solid.
at-ah-boy!
Sounds like a great combo...you'll love it. Now start a little savings account and label it "rear tires"
Sweet!!!
agreed. Ill take it to the track once, and i sure hope I get told to put a rollbar in. cuz that means im under 12's
Im hoping to run high 12's.
11.49 requires a bar, 11.50 does not.
