Lookin fer a dragster

I've spent countless hours lookin' fer a turnkey replica of a late 50's, early 60's digger. I've found nothing but high tech, passable for late front motor cars. Some people call them "nostalgia". Well, they've gotta have a name, but they sure aren't nostalgia. There aren't to many owners of the "real thing" that would never butcher their machine just so they could make it NHRA legal inorder to make a "fun pass" down the quarter. So I thought I would see if anybody was building a reasonably priced replica. One thing for sure, if you want to buy a high tech front motor car, ya gotta have DEEP pockets and a very LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG garage. Can't put one of those money pits in a single car garage. Do you have the need for speed or do ya wanna take a 10 second trip into the past in a replica. Why sit and watch 6.5 second stuff when you could pilot a 10 second ride that won't break the bank each pass. Anyway, the Nostalgias started with original cars but it has since lost sight of it's true meaning. Even the door slammers look nothing like the equipment that was raced 45 years ago. That's just my opinion but does anybody know of a supplier of turnkey, short wheelbase, replicas?

The only thing I can think of is the old '37 fiat's topollino but there are places that make 'glass repo's and from what I'v read, they were pretty popular for drag cars. Check here for the bodies http://www.rodnrace.com/

Try racingjunk.com, lots of cars on there for sale. As for a reasoably price brand new front engined dragster.... S&W may offer one, not sure anymore. There is a forum for front engined dragsters, it's run by Front Engined Dragsters of America, or FEDA, should find it on a Google search.....

And that comes from experience:D They did start out pretty short ,but quickly found out the problems of a very short wheel base. They also found safety issues besdides the "norm" and thats why most have been updated. What are engine combo you looking to run? You looking for something to have parked and just for show?

I have a 60's 120" slingshot that I bracket race I would probably part with it ROLLING for the right price or trade for the right v-drive flat bottom.

Thats funny right there, I dont care who you are. It lay dorment for almost 4 1/2 years and it finally gets a hit. I will admit I almost jumped in with a reply, and would have, if NTFDAY had not caught it. Thanks for saving the day.

Old thread, but still an interesting subject. I understand what the OP was saying, but I've learned never to buy anything until you figure out how you're going to sell it. If you buy a car like he proposed, that won't chassis cert, you may be the only guy who wants it and you'll have a tough time selling it when you need money. If you want a car that will cert without changing anything, start with a kit like this....
