    yah, but look what you got ,I'm not looking at anything near that nice (but will take it ;D) I ran across dozen's of projects well under 6k, much less 10,000 when I was'nt looking for one over the last year ,now that I am looking I catch a ration of over the fact that I am even looking at cars under 10k, I do not want a finished car or even near it, I want a driving or rolling project.
    28-36 Fords come dear for sure and do not expect to get one, but maybe someone has something a bit less popular or not as far along as yours.
    I can not beleive the damage B.Jackson has done to this hobby. After well over 30+ years of building cars, I am almost priced out of it.Cars that just a few years ago went for $250,now bring 1k-2K + They are basically garbage, rusted out untitled parts cars,
    All the states are tightening up their title laws thanks to national press over Coddington style jumped titles, kit car problems and BJackson money. Soon MN will be enacting a VIN inspection law ,hence very soon only correctly VERIFIED titled cars will be accepted here. I am just avoiding future problems ,also those title company's? Illegal as heck and MN is hip to them ,They do not accept cars/titles from those states that allow them to operate and yes that does mean even NEW cars.
    SWEET ride, BTW

    PS. oh yes, there are several listed right here I would be into, but no one seems to answer their PM or emails, thats not a site specific problem either. Its net wide. They seem to post the car and move on or get back to the ad and mark it sold.

    [QUOTE=Dgas56]
    I can not beleive the damage B.Jackson has done to this hobby. After well over 30+ years of building cars, I am almost priced out of it.Cars that just a few years ago went for $250,now bring 1k-2K + They are basically garbage, rusted out untitled parts cars,

    Why does everyone blame Barret-Jackson for a natural progression of the sport and the prices of the cars??? IMO the cars sold at the big auctions that bring the big bucks are VERY nicely done cars. Don't think everycar that goes across the block brings 6 figures. Last year at both the Scottsdale auction and the Florida auction there wer some very good deals to be had the first days of the auction.. The big iron brings the big bucks on Friday and Saturday night, but the majority of the cars were going for $20,000 to $40,000 on the other nights. As a seller, I've got to say I like this trend!!! I've got to make a profit when I sell a car, simple as that... Would you prefer to sell your car in an underadvertised, non-promoted market and not be able to get your money back in parts, let alone the labor???? The publicity that these big name auction brings to the sport also encourages a lot of people to get involved in hot rodding when they see the buyers and sellers aren't a bunch of dirt bags!!!! More cars being built means more parts being sold thus the availabilty is greater and the price goes down.... Building a hot rod is a labor intensive operation, especially if you want the finished project to stand out from the crowd.

    As for the idiots who think their undone project is worth $30K becuase they saw one like it go at auction for $100k, they don't realize that it would take $80K to make their $30K car be that quality... They're just being stupid and will more then likely be sitting on their car for a loooooong time!

    There are plenty of good deals out there for under $10K, heck for less the $5k!!! You've got to look a little harder and your search may take longer is all... And anyway, the chase is half the fun!!!!

    I agree that for builders IN the bussiness its a boon, but the vast majority of us never make or intend to make a profit ,It is simply a hobby for FUN, for my money, I'll never go to a dealer or pro builder even IF I could afford it.
    I completely ignore any ad w/o a price listed, I know what thats all about, I put ads simular to the above on most of the rod sites. Now I'll simply sit back and check them daily, something will come up.either on the net or locally. On several I came under fire for even asking, I gather that project cars on the left and right coasts come dear as that is where most those kinds of reply's came from. here you can still find a decent driver normally for well under 10k, I'm just expnding my search area via the net.I have been to B.J. and I gotta say that a lot of those big $ builders stand by and sweat bullets until the car either shines or falls on its face + more than a couple do fail) On one occasion, I saw the wife of a famous builder go ballistic on her hubby when the car they had utterly failed. That was good for a laugh for sure. I am glad that I do not have to depend on a car selling to pay my bills,(tho it has more than once bailed me out , I did'nt MAKE any money) Just too many variables and risks, I have done the restoration shop thing myself and lost my ass , never again, I completely lost all concept of the hobby being FUN as well .I DRIVE my cars and can give a rats butt about trophy's.(BUT I do appreciate it when I DO get one, its nice to see your work enjoyed) Its about the build and the road, lawn chair roddinng is for the end of the day to me . anyway this is probably not the place for this dicussion.

    I pretty much agree with everything you said, tried doing other things besides building cars, selling parts at various times and always came back to my own shop....Probably cost me thousands of dollars over the years!!!! Just once I would like to have the $$$$ to build a car worthy of the Saturday night show at Barret-Jackson, but living where I do I'll have to be content with building cars and doing work for people around here, not a lot of mega-buck rods around here, but nevertheless some very well done cars....I seldom do "completes", ususally just the frame-suspension stuff that the guy doesn't have the equipment or skills to do himself. If I do complete cars, it's spread out over a few years time, and done as the man can afford it....

    Just a couple other possibilities for you to consider. There is a HUGE swap meet in Des Moines, Ia., think it's in March. I've seen some project cars fitting your requirements bought and sold there. Another good one that is on my "never miss" list is the one in the spring in Columbus, Ne. All the swap meets here locally are about 80% circle burner stuff, with a little drag car and street rod stuff thrown in for good measure. There used to be a good one in Fargo, ND in February, kinda lost touch with those guys, not sure if they even have it anymore.... Here locally we have one in Garretson, SD in June, I've scarfed up on some really GREAT deals there. I usually live on the cell phone throughout that auction....bought cars for three other people there last year....

    I do pretty much the same around here, buts its a Barter thing, I can't do body/paint work,. so we trade off ,engine swaps for paint etc.. Us midwest guys suffer a bit from lack of events in the cold mo's, but that has probably saved a lot of the tin that otherwise would have been used up long ago (or SHOULD have been-Rust NEVER sleeps) My custom Ply cpe went to Rapid City SD, Did'nt make a dime, but I got Medical bills paid and am now looking for the next project tho somewhat cheaper, alot of cleaning + upkeep on this one, Dark paint + WWW are a PIA, I'd rather just wax em once a week + drive em

    Found

    Lest there are still folks out there that do not believe you can't find a driver for under 10 K. Witness this one, one of about 22 I found during my search and the one I bought. A 1931 A PU driver built in 1967 as a drag racer 800 mi's on build then stored until last year when a "flipper" found it and I bought it from him last Sat. , Its titled 63 HP 327 /3spd stick ,Edelbrock C3B, 600 Holley Kool headers ,Alum flywheel, Ansen pedals and scattersheild ,strictly traditional all the way , these are wheels I got on it, but are not the ones that were on it when built. I got those too, but the rubber was shot ,still had its 1967 Mo plates.

    looking for a project

    I think I read that you were looking for a roller/driver project. If you run out of options and are still wanting something to restore or rod, check this site out. My friend Dan Oakleaf has a wrecking yard in Hartford (Souix Falls) SD. With you being in MN. right next door, you could just trailer something home to start on. His web site is www.oakleafoldcars.com...phone is 605-528-6718. He has a full list of rollers/non rollers for sale, cars from the 1920's to the 1970's. Some of the cars have been picked over for parts, but some of them are in pretty good shape. I hope this will help you out....and good luck on your next project.
