It is possible with the right skills but if you can't weld/ fabricate, it isn't feasable. right now in a local classafieds paper, there is a '31 tudor coupe that is a rat rod project for 2k, which would give a few usable components along with a body, only problem the top has a 5" chop, this Is a good example of a really good deal. for 5k you would have to find a good original body, for a fair price ( grand or so ) another couple grand or so for a chassie built, ad your suspension components, probably 2k for that. you could have a rat type car that is safe for 5k but not much moreOriginally posted by Daves32

Like Matt said, unless you are building a rat, $5k isn't even close. Not real sure you could even build a ratty rat for $5. If you do all the work yourself, $5,000 may be enough to get quality suspension and brakes on the car, box the frame, and some reasonably priced tires and wheels.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I don't see you realistically pulling this off for less than ~$8-$10k. Especially when you start researching options and goodies available that you will likely just have to have. But it gets easier if you take your time and spread the $ pain out over a year or two or more. You will learn a lot along the way and heck it's fun too!
